multiline help

ok maybe im not understanding the whole "multiline" regxp thing but isn't it supposed to find stuff separated by a carriage return?

a="Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
, consloremetetur sadipscing"

if i search for "amet," shouldn't it find it and replace it with something?
