File directory save...

i need to change my directory assignment from the "my documents" folder to something else. the reason, the "my documents" folder is now on the "network" and i'm getting these suspicious 3-6 second "not responding" states while Im working in the editor. I need to change it to a local dir. is there a way to do this?
