It happened to me twice in the last two days.
I was rebuilding my machines up and I had installed QM.
The first time I ran typed something into the help input, the OnScreenDisplay popped up saying "Building Index" or something like that...then QM went not responding.
I assume if you take a fresh machine with a fresh QM install, this will happen every time.
